This is significantly more generous than a standard visitor visa, which typically allows stays of up to 6 months.

✅ Who Is Eligible?
To apply for a Super Visa, both the applicant (parent/grandparent) and the host (child or grandchild in Canada) must meet specific criteria.
Applicant (Parent / Grandparent) Requirements
- Must be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian.
- Must undergo an Immigration Medical Exam and be admissible to Canada.
- Must have valid medical insurance coverage from a Canadian or IRCC‑approved insurer, for at least one year from entry, with a minimum of CAD 100,000 coverage, including hospitalization, repatriation, etc.
- Must show intent to leave Canada at the end of their stay (i.e. convincing ties to home country).
Host (Child / Grandchild in Canada) Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old, and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (or registered Indian).
- Must submit a Letter of Invitation promising to financially support the visiting parent/grandparent for the duration of their stay. This letter needs to list household members, income details, etc.
- Must meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) threshold, based on family size.
Note: Changes implemented from July 4, 2022, now allow stays of up to 5 years per entry for new Super Visa applications.
